Records Retention and Obsolete Information Schedule

How long Hub or Dub keeps records and when adverse information is excluded from HOD Reports under 15 U.S.C. § 1681c. Subject to qualified FCRA and state counsel review.

Effective November 4, 2026 · Version 2026-11-04.1 · Continuously reconciled against local law

1. Obsolete information excluded from reports

  • Bankruptcy cases: excluded after 10 years from the date of the order for relief.
  • Civil suits, judgments and arrest records: excluded after 7 years or the governing statute of limitations, whichever is longer.
  • Accounts placed for collection or charged off: excluded after 7 years.
  • Other adverse items, other than criminal convictions: excluded after 7 years.

Statutory exceptions apply for certain high-value credit, insurance and employment transactions. Some states impose shorter periods; Hub or Dub applies the stricter rule where the consumer lives.

2. Records Hub or Dub keeps

  • Permissible purpose certifications, report requests and recipients: kept so we can tell you who received your report, including the prior 2 years for employment and 1 year for other purposes, as required by § 1681g(a)(3).
  • Disputes, reinvestigation records and results: kept for the life of the file plus the period needed to meet legal obligations.
  • Identity verification evidence: kept only as long as needed to verify identity, prevent fraud and meet legal holds.

3. Secure disposal

When records reach the end of their retention period they are securely destroyed under the FTC Disposal Rule (16 C.F.R. Part 682). Records under a legal hold are kept until the hold ends.
